Your Turnout Gear
Needs More Than a Wash.
Every time contaminated gear goes back into service, it puts your firefighters at risk. We clean it, inspect it, and have it back in quickly. You stay ready.
Your Gear Is Fighting Cancer.
And Losing.
Most fire departments wash turnout gear in-house. It’s not enough. Structural fires leave behind carcinogens, VOCs, and PFAS that standard washing can’t remove — and that your firefighters carry home.
NFPA 1850 sets strict standards for how gear must be cleaned and inspected by a Verified Independent Service Provider (ISP). Heiman Fire is one of the few Intertek-certified ISPs in the region.
We handle the entire process — advanced cleaning, thorough inspection, and any repairs — then ship it back. Your department never goes without gear for long.
What Happens Without Proper Care
- Carcinogens absorbed through skin on every call
- Moisture barrier failure — invisible until it’s too late
- Thermal liner degradation reduces burn protection
- NFPA non-compliance — liability risk for your department
- Gear retirement at half its potential lifespan
Three Services. One Shipment.
Everything your gear needs arrives back quickly — cleaned, inspected, documented, and ready for duty.
Advanced Cleaning
We use programmable extractors and pH-neutral, NFPA-approved detergents to remove heavy metals, VOCs, hydrocarbons, and biohazards that standard washing misses.
- Extractor washing — not a washing machine
- Contaminant-specific treatment protocols
- Strike Bac disinfection — pathogens eliminated
- Full NFPA documentation provided
Advanced Inspection
Our certified technicians disassemble and examine every layer of your gear — finding failures that visual checks can’t catch before they fail on the fireground.
- Hydrostatic moisture barrier testing (6 locations)
- Thermal liner evaluation for thin spots
- LumiPHI particulate hood integrity testing
- Hardware, trim & retroreflectivity check
Repair & Alterations
From minor patches to full alterations, every repair meets NFPA 1850 standards and is hydrotested before it ships back. We extend gear life — saving your budget.
- Outer shell, liner & moisture barrier repairs
- Zipper, hook, snap & Velcro replacement
- Sleeve shortening, leg tapering, waist adjustments
- All work hydrotested & warranty-backed

The DRD (Drag Rescue Device) stays in the jacket. Everything else comes out.
Bag by Contamination Level
Standard gear goes in the CLEAR bag. Biohazard or bloodborne contamination → RED bag. Lithium or chemical contamination → YELLOW bag. Bags are provided by Heiman ISP.
Verify Serial Numbers Match
Confirm the serial numbers on the shell and liner match before bagging. Fill out the Cleaning & Repair form (provided) and attach the sleeve to the bag.
Tie & Set Out for Pickup
Tie the bag shut and place it in the designated location at your station. We handle the rest.
